Who are we?
Hi there! Welcome to our blog!
We are four Tourism students, studying at Lapland University of Applied Sciences (LaplandUAS) in Rovaniemi. Doesn't this city sound familiar? What if we say Santa Claus?
Whether you already guessed it or not, we are actually studying in the Official Hometown of Santa Claus and we met the man himself several times.
But let's stop chit-chatting and get to the point. Who are exactly the four students keeping this blog?
Arnau
Arnau is a 22-year-old guy who comes from Catalonia, a region in the North-East of Spain. Arnau is an adventurer guy, fascinated about nature and wildlife. He is interested in Adventure Tourism, that's why he decided to move to Rovaniemi in order to study tourism management and work as an outdoor tour guide in the arctic areas.
Outdoor activities such as climbing, slacklining or hiking are some of Arnau's hobbies.

Boris
Boris is a 19-year-old Bulgarian student. He is open-minded, good in working with a team, adaptive and, from time to time, creative. Boris came to Rovaniemi, Finland, to study Tourism and to learn how to create new experiences. Boris also came to Rovaniemi to enjoy both the small city life and the nature of Finland. He thinks that the Experience Design and Marketing studies are interesting and will improve his skills for the best. He wants to take a view "behind the scenes" of marketing and the experience designing, hoping that this will help him in both working life and his free/hobby time.

Isa
Isa is a "Hungaritalian", which means half-Hungarian and half-Italian, 20-year-old student. She is very creative and open-minded. She moved to Rovaniemi to study Tourism and learn how to create memorable experiences, but also to gain many new experiences herself. Her main interests in studies are in Experience Design and Marketing. She hopes that reflecting the topics of her studies in this blog will help her gain a better understanding and insight in how the studied theory can be connected to practice.
Mira
Mira is the only Finn of the group, and has studied tourism already previously at vocational college. So, even though the basics of tourism and marketing are somewhat familiar to her, she is looking forward to exploring these topics on a deeper level and to see what really goes behind even the simplest small marketing post.

Why this blog?
This blog is kept as part of our Marketing and eCommerce in Tourism studies. In here we will reflect on the topics we learn and consider their meaning and implementation in practice.
Ideas and Expectations
To be honest, at the moment we have mixed feelings about the whole blogging journey and its connection to our marketing studies.
We hope this will help us understand better the connection between theory and practice, and also spark our creativity. Nevertheless, we still feel a bit confused about the implementation of the study course.
Hopefully things will soon get clear to us, so that in this blog we can provide you with the best content possible.
Generally speaking though, we expect our journey in understanding marketing to be interesting and fruitful. We will document it on this blog, in order to share the knowledge we gain and partly put it into practice through the blog itself.
The road so far
We already participated in a couple of introductory lectures so far and we had been assigned the first chapter of the "Digital Marketing Excellence" book by Chaffey and Smith (2017) as a pre-reading material to the course.
The pre-reading gave us an insight in the topics we are going to examine more in depth during our journey in understanding marketing, and so we regarded it as a useful kick-start to the course.
During our previous courses, and some external projects for Isa and Boris writing here, we have already elaborated marketing strategies by including digital platforms. This introductory chapter, though, opened our eyes on a much wider array of digital marketing opportunities and how to grant their success.
We realised that there is a lot to consider when establishing a successful marketing strategy, and failing can be just around the corner.
It all starts with defining the objectives, to then decide on which is the best strategy to accomplish them.
As we learnt from the pre-reading, in digital marketing there are 5 main objectives to be considered, also known as the 5S. These are Sell, Serve, Speak, Save and Sizzle.
There are many aspects to consider to each of these objectives, and hopefully we won't get lost in them when going further with our studies.
Stick with us, and you'll discover the steps to understand marketing - and also if we succeed in not getting lost in marketing ;)
Good start with blogging!
ReplyDeleteI especially liked your personal introductions.
How about tags, checking that there aren't unnecessary parts in the template (see the pages Portfolio, etc.), giving images descriptive file names (not using the name the camera gives, such as IMG23455)?
On the right column, there is a blog archive. How about adding there some other widgets, such as tag cloud or a search field?
Hi Outi!
DeleteThank you very much for your constructive comment!
I am glad we had a chat about the issues you mentioned and we will take these into consideration to improve in our blogging from now on.
Keep following us in our journey to understand marketing to discover if we made it! :)
